Tea Fit for a Yogi

Tea Fit for a Yogi is a dry herbal-spice mixture of cinnamon, fenugreek, cardamom, cloves, peppercorns, fennel, and fresh ginger.

The whole dry spices are first lightly crushed in a paper bag rather than ground to powder. That keeps the finished blend coarse enough for steeping.

The crushed spices are mixed with chopped fresh ginger and stored airtight. To serve, a small amount of the blend is steeped in a pot of hot water to the desired strength.

Ingredients

  • 6 small pieces cinnamon bark
  • 1 teaspoon whole fenugreek seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom pods
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon whole peppercorns
  • 2 teaspoons fennel seeds
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, chopped

Method

Place all ingredients except the ginger in a brown paper bag and crush them with a rolling pin or by gently tapping with a hammer. Transfer to a large bowl, add the chopped ginger, and mix. Use 1–2 teaspoons of the mixture per pot of hot water and steep to taste. Store the remaining tea mixture in an airtight container. Makes 4–5 tablespoons.
