Peace of Mind Includes a Restless Mind

A quiet mind is pleasant.

It is also unreliable as a permanent achievement.

Thoughts arrive.

Attention moves.

Old concerns return.

A song repeats itself.

Anxiety, excitement, memory, planning, and irritation can all enter without permission.

If peace of mind means preventing this movement, peace becomes another control project.

Another possibility is less dramatic.

The mind can be restless without the restlessness becoming an emergency.

A thought can appear without requiring obedience.

A feeling can move without becoming an identity.

Distraction can be noticed and attention returned.

This does not eliminate psychological suffering or replace treatment where treatment is needed.

It changes the standard by which ordinary mental movement is judged.

Peace does not have to mean the absence of movement.

It can include a mind that continues doing what minds do.

The difference is whether every movement has to become a problem.
