Ideals
Ideals are internal standards for how we think we should be. They can guide conduct, but they can also create pressure when we mistake the ideal for our actual being.
Then the work shifts from meeting a situation honestly to performing the right image of ourselves. A useful ideal invites practice and correction. It does not require us to hide the distance between the standard and what is so.
