We feel like doing the work one day and resist it the next.

That does not make capacity unlimited.
There is a crucial difference between I do not want to and I cannot.

Mature commitment has to survive both truths.
If commitment ends whenever enthusiasm ends, it is only preference with a strong opening statement.
If commitment refuses every real limit, it becomes denial.
A durable promise therefore includes practices of repair and renegotiation.

When a commitment can no longer be fulfilled as given, we address the word rather than pretending nothing changed.
