Wealth: (That’s What I Want?)
What do you mean by wealth? Money, freedom, health, respect, and the ability to care for others may all enter the answer. The question is personal, and it deserves more than a single measure.
Money matters. It can pay for food, housing, care, and choices that would otherwise be closed. Managing it is a real responsibility. But a bank balance cannot, by itself, tell us who we are or whether our lives feel fulfilled.
The confusion begins when we ask a useful resource to settle a different question. More money may change our circumstances. It does not guarantee contentment, purpose, or connection. Nor does having less money make those needs less real.
It is possible to pursue financial security without making it the whole measure of a life. Ask what the money is for: what it lets you sustain, protect, create, or share. The answer may reveal a value the number alone cannot express.
We are responsible for our finances. We are also responsible for noticing when we have made them the final word on our worth.
