Tomato Raisin Raita
Tomato Raisin Raita combines fresh diced tomato with plain yogurt and softened raisins for a clear sweet-and-sour contrast.
The raisins are soaked in water for five minutes before they are stirred into the yogurt. That short soak plumps them without changing the fresh texture of the tomatoes.
Ground cumin and cilantro are used only as garnish, so the base remains focused on yogurt, tomato, and raisins.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 2 cups plain yogurt
- 1/2 cup tomatoes, diced
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin, for garnish
- 1 sprig fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish
- Optional source variation: an additional 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Method
Soak the raisins in a small bowl of water for 5 minutes. Combine the yogurt and tomatoes in a serving bowl. Drain the raisins and stir them into the yogurt mixture. Sprinkle with ground cumin, garnish with cilantro, and serve. Makes 2 3/4 cups.
