Stories vs. What Happened
What happened is the event we can describe. A story is the meaning or explanation we add to it. The two can become so closely joined that the interpretation starts to feel like an observed fact.
Separating them does not make the story false. It makes room to ask which part is known, which part is inferred, and whether another interpretation would change our response.
