Possibility Is Not Another Task
When life feels flat, the obvious response is to add something.
A project.
A trip.
A hobby.
A class.
A new goal.
Sometimes that is exactly what is needed.
Sometimes it adds activity without changing the experience underneath.
The distinction is between a task and a possibility.
A task tells us what to do.
A possibility changes the context in which many different actions can occur.
If the possibility is contribution, the next action might be a conversation, a project, a donation, a design, or a decision.
If the possibility is adventure, no single activity owns it.
This keeps possibility from becoming another item on a list.
The future may need more than occupation.
It may need a quality of being that gives new actions a reason to matter.
Another task can fill time.
A possibility can reorganize what the time is for.
