Name the Work You Are Not Doing
‘There is not enough time’ may describe a real limit. A day has only so many hours, and a body has limits too. Yet the sentence can also hide a choice we have not named about what we are leaving undone.
It helps to sort the work plainly. Some things are happening now. Some are waiting for a specific later time. Some we are not going to do at all. Calling every item urgent keeps those differences out of sight.
Naming the difference does not make a deadline disappear or turn a heavy workload into an easy one. It does let us tell the truth to ourselves and to anyone depending on us. We can renegotiate a promise, ask for help, or let a task go.
Time may still be scarce. Clarity begins when we say what our current time is actually being used for, and what it cannot hold.
