Mortality Does Not Need a Metaphysical Explanation
Bodies do not last forever.
That fact is simple enough.
The explanations we add around it can become much less simple.
The source compares aging bodies to old cars and then moves into claims that awareness survives the body and that medical conditions accompanying death may not really cause death.
Those claims should be separated.
Medicine can identify immediate and underlying causes of death. A brain aneurysm, heart failure, cancer, infection, trauma, and many other conditions can causally contribute to death.
Recognizing mortality does not require denying those causes.
It also does not settle what consciousness is or whether anything survives bodily death.
Those are philosophical, religious, and scientific questions with different kinds of evidence and disagreement.
What remains available without overclaiming is the existential fact.
Aging changes the body.
Control is partial.
Death is not an optional feature of human life.
Facing that can change priorities without providing a theory of the afterlife.
We can care for the body seriously and still know care cannot make it immortal.
Mortality does not need to be explained away before it can be faced.
