Mediterranean Ingredients Through an Indian Pantry

The cookbook regularly uses ingredients associated with Mediterranean cooking—olive oil, chickpeas, lemon, parsley, mint, feta, olives, pine nuts, and hummus-style preparations—inside a broader Indian and Ayurvedic pantry.

Those ingredients are not treated as foreign decoration. Olive oil becomes an everyday cooking and dressing fat, chickpeas move between curry and hummus, and lemon and herbs provide acidity and freshness across many dishes.

The overlap works because the pantry functions are compatible. Pulses add body, olive oil carries flavor, herbs brighten cooked foods, and lemon or vinegar gives the table needed sharpness.

Ingredients

  • Chickpeas
  • Olive oil
  • Lemon
  • Parsley or mint
  • Feta or olives where appropriate
  • Cumin or other spices
  • Fresh vegetables

Method

Use the ingredients according to their culinary role rather than forcing them into one regional label. Chickpeas can become curry, salad, or hummus; olive oil can cook or dress; herbs and lemon can finish both Indian-style and Mediterranean-style plates.
