Letting Go of Study Does Not Mean Discarding What Was Learned
Study can become another object to carry.
Definitions.
Frameworks.
Notes.
Quotations.
Interpretations.
At first they make distinctions visible.
Later they can stand between us and what we are trying to see.
Letting go of studied material does not mean throwing away knowledge.
A musician does not forget scales when attention moves to the music.
A skilled driver does not rehearse every rule while turning a corner.
Learning can become background capability.
The distinction is between possession and use.
Do we need to keep displaying the framework in order to encounter what the framework was meant to reveal?
Sometimes yes. Precision requires reference.
Sometimes no. Constant explanation can become interference.
What was learned can remain available without occupying the center of attention.
Letting go is not anti-intellectual.
It can be the moment when learning becomes usable enough not to require constant display.
