Integrity Has to Be Generated Again

Once we learn to balance on a bicycle, we do not have to rediscover the whole skill every time we ride. We get on and use what we have learned.

Integrity works differently. Distinguishing it as honoring our word can open a new realm of workability, but the distinction does not keep our promises for us. Each commitment asks for action in its own circumstances.

Being out of balance is usually obvious. A failure to honor our word may be quieter: an agreement becomes harder to rely on, or an omission goes unaddressed. Integrity is generated when we keep our word, or deal with it openly when we cannot.

We can choose it again. The choice matters because it has to become visible in what we do.
