Fruity “Jello”
Fruity “Jello” is a simple fruit dessert set with agar agar rather than gelatin. Fresh fruit sits in a light mixture of water and apple juice.
The agar agar is boiled in water for 2–3 minutes until dissolved, then the apple juice is stirred in off the heat. This keeps the method short and direct.
The liquid is poured over the prepared fruit and chilled for 45–60 minutes. Once set, the dessert can be served directly from the bowl.
Ingredients
- 2 cups fruit of your choice, sliced or chopped
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon agar agar flakes
- 1 1/2 cups apple juice
Method
Place the prepared fruit in a serving bowl. Combine the water and agar agar in a medium pot over high heat and boil for 2–3 minutes, stirring until the agar dissolves. Remove from the heat, stir in the apple juice, and pour the mixture over the fruit. Refrigerate for 45–60 minutes, or until set. Makes 4 servings.
