Emotions Can Be Weather Without Becoming a Forecast
Weather is real while it is happening.
Rain gets us wet.
Wind changes what is possible outdoors.
A storm can require shelter.
It still does not tell us the weather for the rest of the year.
Emotion can be held similarly.
Sadness is real.
Fear is real.
Anger, tenderness, shame, excitement, and grief can all alter attention and action.
The difficulty begins when the feeling becomes a forecast.
I feel afraid, therefore this will end badly.
I feel sad, therefore something is permanently wrong with me.
I feel angry, therefore the relationship is broken.
The emotion may contain information.
It may require action, support, boundaries, treatment, or time.
But the feeling itself does not automatically establish every conclusion built around it.
Weather changes on its own timetable.
Emotions can change too, though not always quickly and not always without help.
The useful distinction is modest.
A feeling can be fully present without becoming the whole climate of who we are.
