Being Home Does Not Require a Next Plan

We are trained to ask what comes next.

A project ends.

A career changes.

Children grow.

A move is completed.

An achievement is reached.

What is the next plan?

The question can be useful.

It can also make arrival difficult to recognize.

A life does not always need a new organizing project immediately.

There can be seasons in which ordinary living is enough.

Wake up.

Make food.

Talk with people.

Read.

Walk.

Care for what is nearby.

The absence of a grand next step is not automatically emptiness.

It may be completion.

It may be rest.

It may be a period in which identity is no longer being built around pursuit.

Being home does not have to mean nothing will change.

It can mean the present no longer needs a future plan in order to justify it.
