Transformation Does Not Require Circumstances to Change

We often measure change by looking for different circumstances.

A problem disappears. A relationship changes. A result improves. Something external is visibly different.

Transformation can occur at another level.

The facts may remain.

What changes is what becomes possible in relation to them.

A difficult conversation may still be difficult, while honesty becomes possible where avoidance had been automatic.

A constraint may remain, while a new response becomes visible.

A relationship may carry the same history, while the next conversation is no longer required to repeat it.

This is not a claim that context replaces circumstance.

Material conditions matter. Harm matters. Resources, health, power, law, and other realities can limit action.

The distinction is simply that external change is not the only kind of change.

A transformed conversation does not have to make the situation disappear.

It can alter what can be said, heard, chosen, or attempted inside the situation that is already here.

Circumstances may change later.

The first shift can be in the realm of possibility.
