Thai Salad Dressing

Thai Salad Dressing balances ginger, garlic, lime, tamari, olive oil, sesame oil, and maple syrup in a dressing that is salty, sour, aromatic, and lightly sweet.

The fresh green chili, cilantro, and basil are treated as salad garnishes rather than blended directly into the dressing. That keeps their texture and aroma distinct.

Shake the liquid dressing thoroughly first, then add the garnishes to the salad before pouring the dressing over. This preserves the separation between sauce and fresh herbs.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated or finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 4 tablespoons lime juice
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • Dash of sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon tamari, Bragg all-purpose seasoning, or soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh green chilies, minced, or to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

Method

Combine the ginger, garlic, lime juice, olive oil, sesame oil, tamari or Bragg seasoning, and maple syrup in a jar and shake well. Add the green chili, cilantro, and basil directly to the salad. Toss, pour over the dressing, toss again, and serve. Makes about 1/2 cup dressing.
