Reason
A reason can explain a choice. It can also become a justification we build after the choice has already been made.
The difference matters. An honest reason helps us examine evidence, costs, and alternatives. A convenient reason mainly protects the decision from being questioned.
Before relying on an explanation, we can ask whether it shaped the choice or appeared only when we needed to defend it.
