A Fallow Season Can Leave Room for What Comes Next

When a long role ends, the next one may not be ready to name. A person who has left a job, completed a project, or changed a household rhythm can find themselves with time that no longer has its old shape.

Calling this a fallow season can help. A field left unsown is not necessarily abandoned. It may be resting, being tended, or waiting for a different use. The metaphor leaves room for uncertainty without treating uncertainty as failure.

The pause has its own work

A person can notice what they miss about the previous role and what they do not. They can attend to obligations, relationships, health, and material needs that still continue. They can try small experiments before announcing a new identity.
